Some blocos played last weekend, and schedules of their unsanctioned performances are circulating widely on WhatsApp. But with daily COVID-19 deaths near zero for over a month and the mask mandate lifted, people want to party. That idea ran counter to blocos’ freewheeling nature, plus some organizers expressed worry it was a further attempt to “privatize” Carnival by yoking them with corporate sponsorship. With the Omicron variant spreading in January, Paes proposed blocos be relegated to enclosed, controlled spaces to check proof of vaccination upon entry. It was the first time in a century Rio’s pre-Lenten festivities were canceled, and Paes bestowed the city’s key to health workers instead of King Momo. Which is to say: a paradise for partiers, and a vector for viruses.īlocos had little desire to turn out last year as Brazil’s catastrophic second COVID-19 wave took shape. Crowds are densely packed, bottles are shared and kissing is custom. In Carnival’s 2020 edition, just before COVID-19 reached Brazil, more than 7 million people partied in the so-called Street Carnival, according to city figures. Paes fired back on Twitter: “The correct thing is not having blocos! They aren’t authorized and we won’t have the structure for the party.” If he thinks there’s no problem, the right thing would be to free them with conviction.” “If thinks it can’t be done, isn’t possible, the coherent thing would be to prohibit it seriously. “Apparently prohibition didn’t make much sense, as the blocos bring the soul of carnival to the streets and are fundamental for the city’s spirit,” wrote Leo Aversa. On Tuesday, a columnist in the city’s main newspaper, O Globo, wrote that City Hall was washing its hands of policymaking duties by leaving blocos in legal limbo. “It’s hypocritical of the government to not give attention to other sectors.” But she is also a member of the troupe that will lead the reigning samba school champion, Viradouro, through the Sambadrome this year. “It’s important to be collectively pressuring the government, so Carnival is recognized and supported like it should be,” Karen Lino, 29, said while sporting a jaguar-print outfit that reflected her role as a dancer in the Friends of the Jaguar bloco. The euphoric protest was organized by Ocupa Carnival, a group that days earlier drafted a manifesto denouncing perceived attempts to commodify and repress blocos that was signed by more than 125 of them. On April 13, dozens of musicians marched through downtown blasting their horns, banging their drums and demanding to be heard. They insist celebrating Carnival isn’t contingent on authorities’ consent - not this year, nor any other. Since 2010, more than 150 blocos have refused City Hall’s institution of a registration process, with many viewing it as an attempt to formalize something inherently informal, Videira said.

While waiting for paperwork, the original salesman came over to where we were waiting, and started trying to partly blame us for the situation. The salesman had made a mistake, and CarMax was trying to get us to take responsibility for it. Management of CarMax wanted my husband to sign a Return Agreement, but the reason CarMax stated for the Reason for Vehicle Return was “Does not like vehicle appearance.” This was not the case. We decided to return the car, and not do business with CarMax. We could look at the car that we had the paperwork for, but they would not correct their paperwork and allow us to keep the car that we wanted. We went over to the office and spoke to the manager, he said there was nothing they could do. We felt that this was the error of the salesman, and CarMax should rectify the situation. CarMax asked us to return the car, and we could take possession of the car in the paperwork - one that we hadn’t seen or test driven. The car that we had test driven and agreed to purchase was approximately $3000 more than the quoted price in the paperwork. Apparently, the salesman had incorrectly put the VIN of another car in the paperwork. Saturday morning, my husband got a call from the salesman. Papers were signed, keys given, and he drove away in the car. On Friday, my husband went to CarMax with check in hand to complete the purchase. We wanted it to present to him on Saturday, before graduation. Went to CarMax on West Sahara on Thursday to purchase a car for a graduation present for our son. Joe said he’ll look into the details, talk to his partner, the General Manager, and let me know. I later called back asking for a general manager and spoke with Joe in Operations/Sr Management whom confirmed he does oversee Anthony/Tony. I asked to speak with the next level person as I felt this was unacceptable he replied there was no one else (lie #3). he also stated I’d have to speak with the sales manager for any dissatisfaction with the “expectation” from the salesman. The kept circling around we’ve done everything we can do, you can bring it in to try again but he didn't believe there was anything different that could be done. I spoke with an Anthony/Tony whom stated he was the head of ops/oversees service. I’ve asked to be contacted by a manager several times but was not, so I called. We’ve since brought it in 4+ times to have it cleaned/treated for smoke smell with no resolution. Shortly after owning the vehicle, the cleaner wore off leaving the distinct smell of smoke. We noticed an odd odor, which the salesman stated was the chemical cleaner they use (lie #2). It arrived shortly and we came in to purchase it. We started the transfer process, asked if there were any issues or SMELLS, to which they replied no (lie #1), and paid to have it shipped. We came in to see a few models, decided on one and found the one we wanted another store to be transferred. The car buying process was fine and as promised however, they lied to sell me a car. RUN AWAY AND DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!!! After the sale you are just a piece of trash to them So they finally take the truck in to get repaired and they don't bother to call me and update me, nor provide me a loaner vehicle. Don't bother calling the 800 number, they're just a feel good hotline that takes a memo and sends it to the same people who are causing the problems. This leads me to believe THEY DID NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE BEFORE RESELLING IT!!!! The vehicle also has this blackish powdery substance all over under the hood. I called to make an appointment to get it checked, and they told me it would take at least 10 days to get it in there!!! They truck is less than 2 weeks old (conveniently broke down after the 7 day period) and they expect me to wait that long for things that should have been dealt with before it was put up for sale. If you can buy from somewhere else, DO IT! RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK!!! They crashed one of our cars on the lot, then sold us another that had a RODENT NEST under the hood, LEAKING OIL, electrical problems, etc. You need to go in XCode and start properly archiving your app. Here is a small guide on how to build and distribute your Flutter app for macOS. I find the Flutter documentation to be a little bit lacking on this end. The last part I wanted to experiment with is releasing the app. Unlike the Web, you got all the Hot Reload that is working properly and I might be using the mac app to speed up the web development. Other than that, the developer experience is really great. I haven't spent too much time figuring out how exactly I would like to do that, but priority between different cursor depending on how long the cursor has been on certain parts of the app is something that I'll need to think about if I want to improve my app ? But for some behavior like drag and drop, it's a little bit harder. For instance, changing the cursor when hovering the proper part of the app is something that is expected from desktop apps.Īs you can see on the video, most Flutter widgets are handling this pretty nicely, like the TextField or the buttons. Ease of developmentĬreating an app for a desktop is always a little bit different than creating an app for mobile. It would also make it easier to pick the right plugin since the ones with macOS support were often the most up-to-date. I didn't feel like I was restrained for this app on the dependencies available for Flutter on macOS. The only native plugin I had to install in just_audio that I'm using to play a small sound when the time is over for a task. Dependenciesįor this simple app, my pubspec.yaml is pretty small:Īs you can see, nothing fancy here. Sometimes the input will get cut in half and I haven't found yet what was the reason behind that (If you have an idea, please tell me! ?). As you can see, everything is working pretty smoothly except for a weird bug in the TextField. Here is the result of the app I developed. Well, I wanted to develop something like that with Flutter. I'm my company, we call that Ghost Programming. A light chime will let you know that you should ask for help because you might be stuck on a task. If you're a junior, it might be easy to be losing a sense of how much time you've been coding. In order to properly estimate the main task, you might need to estimate several subtasks to see how long will the full task take.

(Scroll down to the bottom if want to skip ahead to my verdict. Note that I don't have especially sensitive or dry skin, and my leg and armpit hair is fairly fine and light, so your experience may vary. Now that you know how to shave your face safely, you need the best tools to do it.When I'm reviewing a product like this, I tend to consider two main things in my evaluation: (1) the marketing claims made by the packaging, advertising, and/or press kit and (2) my own expectations and experiences with similar products that I like. Steer clear of harsh active ingredients immediately after shaving (say, retinol), as it can burn or sting if there are any microscopic cuts or micro-injuries to the skin, says Dr. Don’t go over any area more than once, and don’t use on areas of the face where the skin appears broken or irritated.Īvoid harsh ingredients post-shave: “Within five minutes of shaving, I recommend applying an aftershave moisturizing lotion to help repair the skin barrier and minimize the risk of developing irritation,” says Dr. “This may be preferred because it minimizes potential future sagging.”Ĭlean off your razor every two to three strokes to make sure there’s no hair in the blade. “Many believe that shaving in an upward direction minimizes potential pull or tension on the skin,” says Dr. Shave in the direction of hair growth: Using a clean, sharp blade, hold the skin taut and use light, short strokes, holding the blade at roughly a 45-degree angle. Pat your skin dry, then apply a thin layer of moisturizer to set the hairs in place for the razor. “This will help reduce friction between the blade and the skin,” says Marisa Garshick, M.D., clinical assistant professor of dermatology at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York. Prep your face: Wash your face using a gentle cleanser to wash away impurities and soften the hairs. Electric razors or vibrating blades are usually used on dry skin, and may be the best option if yours is sensitive or acne-prone. “Razors for the legs are typically designed with extra-large lubricating strips and may be bulky for the face,” says Dr. If your hair is dense, consider using a men’s multi-blade razor. “If used properly, they also offer exfoliating benefits by removing dead cells from the surface of the skin,” says Joshua Zeichner, M.D., director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. How to shave your face safelyĬhoose the right razor: Straight-edge razors are the best for peach fuzz. “Some people might feel a coarse or ‘stubbly’ blunt hair tip left behind after shaving that might be thicker or darker looking, but this resolves as the hair grows out,” says Dr. Plus, “laser hair removal can be expensive.”ĭon’t fret: Shaving won’t change the thickness, color, or growth rate of your facial hair. For one, it’s a lot easier on your skin (if you do it right), as creams, tweezing, and electrolysis can be irritating or even traumatize the skin, says Austin-based board-certified dermatologist Adam Mamelak, M.D. Ready to get rid of it? There are plenty of ways to do it ( waxing, tweezing, epilating creams), but shaving is one strategy that doesn’t get taken as seriously for women as it should. Excess facial hair in women might run in the family, or a hormone imbalance (say, PCOS or menopause) may cause villus hair to morph into a thick, dark terminal hair. (Street name: peach fuzz.)īut some women do experience facial hair that’s thicker or darker, says Hadley King, M.D., clinical instructor of dermatology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Usually, the follicles adorning our faces produce what’s called villus hair, or fine, wispy hair that’s light in color. Don’t be fooled: We all sport facial hair. Just like with the majority of Jay’s music, the lyrical content doesn’t really interest me at all, but his flow is nice. The hook is really simplistic, but I love it. The first verse was actually really good too. This is definitely the best production on this album so far. I can’t stand this beat, Jay’s flow is boring, and it’s annoying as fuck how he ends almost every line with the same word. There’s not a single aspect of this song that I like. This might actually be the worst song on the whole album so far. I should’ve known that would’ve been too good to be true… Anyway, this song is starting now. Ugh… At first I thought it said Sean Price. This is definitely not one of my favorites from Jay, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it. The production & hook from Pharrell are really the main reasons that I like the song. The first verse from Jay didn’t really do anything for me. He sang his fuckin’ ass off on that hook. There are some uncredited vocals from Pharrell. It’s the first song that I actually like. This is easily the best song on the album so far. It was apparently written by Ab-Liva, who does a lot of work with Pusha T. Just like with the original song, I’m not crazy about the hook. His flow was great.Īll of these rap singers claimin’ they bangers / Doin’ all sorts of twisted shit with their fingers / Disrespectin’ the game no home training or manners / I was doin’ this shit when you was shittin’ your Pampers. This first verse from Jay is actually hard as fuck. Honestly, I like this beat the most out of all the songs. I mean, they haven’t really been that great so far, but still. I just wanna point out that the first three placements on this album are really impressive. I doubt this’ll surpass that song, but I’m gonna keep an open mind. I liked that song, but my favorite track in this series is definitely The Watcher 3 by Sylvan LaCue, even if it isn’t official. This is a sequel to the original song that appeared as the intro for Dr. His flow was nice on the final verse, but nah… I’m not feelin’ this one. Just Blaze is one of the greatest producers of all time, but this shit isn’t working for me. I take back what I said about it being better than that of the previous song. Uuugh… The more I listen to this song the less I like it. I like Jay’s flow on the hook, but the female vocals that say “it’s Hovi baby” sound pretty fucking terrible to me. I think I like it more than the previous beat tho. Like, it doesn’t sound like someone was supposed to rap over this. I kinda liked it at first, but it sounds kinda… Almost like it’s unfinished. I’m not really sure how I feel about this beat. The beat was kinda nice, but aside from that this isn’t worth listening to. Smh… I mean, it’s a great verse, but… Really? You couldn’t have just… You know… Not done that? Why the fuck would I wanna hear this instead of the original song? This is just a really underwhelming track. Of course he just sampled the entire first verse from Juicy. I wanna get through this bull shit as quickly as possible. I’m not gonna talk about the bonus tracks. It’s hard enough for me to get through a good JAY-Z album that’s only 13 tracks, so this is gonna be a struggle. The features look pretty good for the most part. The streets are calling this a classic album. I don’t think it’s supposed to be as bad as Kingdom Come or Magna Carta Holy Grail, but I don’t think that’s really saying much. I’m pretty sure this is supposed to be one of Jay’s wackest albums. I think the only double album I’ve ever heard that I actually liked a lot was Summertime ’06. First of all, it’s a fucking double album, which is never a good sign. This album was released on November 12th in the year of our Lord 2002. The CD had a few sonic clicks and quirks that may vary player to player. A highlight from a show of nothing but highlights. The funky classic works surprisingly well. Finally “Last Child” is announced to the excitement of one really hyped guy in the crowd. For a solid thrills-per-second ratio, you gotta go for the fast take. “Train Kept-a Rollin'” from Get Your Wings is the final cover, though presented twice: “fast” and “slow” versions. It’s particularly cool because you get Tyler playing flute. Returning once more to the first album, “Walkin’ the Dog” is the fifth of six cover tunes and the first encore. Tyler and Perry’s voices blend naturally together in the unforgiving unplugged environment. Then, as if you’re daring them to try one that fast again, it’s “Toys in the Attic”. Full steam ahead just like the album version, you don’t wanna be standing on the tracks when this one rolls by. “Milk Cow Blues” is rolled out next, a rarely played number from Draw the Line. Playing with minimal instrumentation is a wise way to do it, though it picks up steam at the end. Arguably the song everybody was waiting to hear easily a highlight. They they unload the heavy artillery exactly halfway into the set: “Dream On”. The oft-imitated Howlin’ Wolf cover is a natural jam for them. For serious fans, “Smokestack Lightning” is a treat because Aerosmith have never recorded it before. Going even further back in time, Aerosmith pull “One Way Street” from the first album featuring a cool Perry solo. That’s all before Thom Gimbel shows up with his sax! This version kills. The album version with full horns is rearranged into an acoustic shuffle with individual guitar solos by Brad Whitford and Joe Perry. Then it’s onto 1975 and “Big Ten Inch Record”, the old R&B classic they covered on Toys in the Attic. The purity of the unplugged stage is the ideal setting. When this set was recorded in 1990, only people who owned Get Your Wings would really have known this song. The first step back into Aerosmith’s past is 1974’s “Seasons of Wither”. Tyler gets to honk on the harmonica and tear it up on the vocals a bit. The first surprise of the night comes from the Air America soundtrack, to which Aerosmith contributed their Doors cover “Love Me Two Times”. Deconstructed as an acoustic jam, it lays it down hard. “Monkey On My Back” is more surprising, being a heavier groove from Pump. “Hangman Jury” is a natural for an opener, and actually superior to the Permanent Vacation album cut. That makes Aerosmith Unplugged a strong contender for the best live Aerosmith purchase since Classics Live II. Because MTV were rigid about things being 100% live, you’ll get none of the annoying backing tracks that Aerosmith use today. Now thanks to easily acquired broadcast CDs, you can get all 14 tracks in one handy place. When Aerosmith’s MTV Unplugged aired in Canada, we didn’t get the whole show. AEROSMITH – Unplugged 1990 (2017 Zap City broadcast CD) I knew that everything would be alright in the end but that didn’t stop me from being firmly on the edge of my seat, nerves in shreds, for much of the movie.Īll of this tension wouldn’t be quite so believable and thrilling if it wasn’t for the cast. Child molester Sammy decides to return to the house without Rob and a heavy storm manages to throw out the power and inflict damage on the house. Amazingly, Jessica does manage to remain cool, calm and collected, making good use of jar lids to try and dig herself out while occasionally passing food and instructions to Lainey.Īs if being stuck in a pantry, in a remote house, with your young children fending for themselves outside wasn’t enough, Shut In throws even more in Jessica’s direction. We can hear Lainey and movement upstairs while Lainey tries to feed and care for the baby, but we have no idea what’s going on, just like Jessica, which really adds to the intensity. She has no way of calling for help and not much in the house that can help her escape.įrom there, and for much of the remainder of the movie, we stay with Jessica in the pantry. There’s a gap at the base of the door, big enough for Jessica to pass Lainey some homemade apple butter from the pantry so that she doesn’t go hungry, but Rob was sure to take Jessica’s mobile phone with him, along with his toolbox. Rob and Sammy don’t stick around, but it now means that Jessica is well and truly shut in. An argument ensues, and an angry Rob shoves Jessica back inside the pantry, closing the door and hammering boards across it for good measure. To make things worse, Rob has brought along his drug addict friend Sammy (Vincent Gallo), who also happens to be a child molester! We learn that Jessica was once an addict too, moving in the same circles as Rob and Sammy, but managed to get herself clean. Unfortunately for Jessica, that someone is Rob (Jake Horowitz), ex-boyfriend and father of their children, who is also a drug addict and generally not a very nice person. Luckily, Jessica doesn’t stay trapped for long before somebody shows up to set her free. Unfortunately, the door cannot be opened from the inside and daughter Lainey isn’t strong enough to turn the handle from the outside either. While clearing out the pantry, the door slides free of the brick that Jessica used to prop it open, slamming shut and trapping her inside. Rainey Qualley stars as Jessica, a single mom of two young kids, who is in the process of clearing out and preparing her Nana’s house for sale following her death. If you can put aside the history and beliefs of some of those involved in the production of Shut In (I was completely oblivious beforehand, so this wasn’t an issue for me), then you’ll likely find it to be a wonderfully tense and well-acted little thriller. Shut In is the first original film to come from right-wing news site The Daily Wire, as part of their promise to “make conservative movies to take on liberal Hollywood”. |
