![]() We'll revise the countdown timer in the next release, so it'll only happen once per day, instead of every app launch. But since I find that so annoying I've purchased the full versiobn of the app. I still think the countdown timer that runs at the start of every session with the free version is a terrible idea, but if you can live with that you get a lot of functionality. It works faster and handles more images at a time. My workflow has been to use the latest version of Nikon View to review and cull images, but I'm replacing that with ApolloOne. I shoot in raw with my Nikons and have accumulated a lot of files over the years. My previous review was all bout the pricing model for thr app and not about what it can do and how well it does it. I am using SilkyPix DS PRO 8E for all my photoediting going forward, I have used SilkyP for years in addition to Adobe Products for both my Panasonic and Nikon cameras.Īfter some discussion with the developer and more thought about the capabiliteis of ApolloOne I've revised my rating. I think this app, by it’s structure, will not have the destructive results caused by some OpenSource PhotoManagers- but it always pays to back up. I am not sure if I will use the interface to move libraries, safer to do that in the file system I think. I can set this up in a way that will not damage my photo libraries. I can think of a few minor update requests that I will send to the developer, but overall I am very pleased. Amazingly, it does everything I am trying to accomplish and it is up to date and already works with the next version of the MAC OS. I was looking at a simple photo viewer to help accomplish this task when I found ApolloOne. Something that won’t go obsolete if a software package goes obsolete or becomes too expensive. Second, the File Name/Folder Name/Metadata search modes should be checkboxes that can be combined, not mutually exclusive.įinally, it should respect the System Preferences>General>Show scroll bars setting.įaced with Adobe software that won’t work with the next MAC-OS upgrade and a large photo library, I have been desparately looking at ways to accomplish a basic photo management scheme on my own, using the MAC OS native indexing to store, search and filter metadata, keywords, etc. That was one of my most common workflows in Picasa and it's a lot clumsier in ApolloOne. I waste a lot of time waiting for ApolloOne to scan my top-level folder of over 35,000 edited photos before it lets me search to narrow down what I see. Most important is a preference for the search string to persist when I click on a different folder, and to apply sooner. I have three wishes for it to fix annoyances. ApolloOne is a well laid out and attractive photo viewer. Nothing else makes it as easy to browse and search photos in folders that I organize. Days of reading reviews and trying alternatives finally led me to ApolloOne. As a 32-bit app, it kept me from upgrading from MacOS Mojave. I used Picasa to browse and view edited photos for over a decade, even after Google abandoned it. You can also drag the QuickPreview window to a second monitor if you wish. You can use arrow keys to navigate while the QuickPreview window is active. Also, while in Contact Sheet mode, pressing spacebar will bring up the QuickPreview window. ![]() Select "Open With" or "Open Camera RAW With" to send one or multiple images to an external editor. Right mouse click on the main window and you get a Context menu. ![]() The 2 missing features are actually available in the app. Good alternative to Adobe Bridge, which is what I used to use. Overall, a decent program with a no charge price. Not sure I even need to pay for the upgrade to the full version as my basic needs have already been met. Can be viewed by double clicking, but it takes you out of the grid layout by doing so. No larger image preview of selected photo while remaining in grid layout, could be in sidebar, above or below. Instant opening of photos directly to application like Photoshop or Affinity Photo. Couple of small things that are lacking or I have yet to discover. Also shows video files.ĭon't need an editor, just need to be able to see my photo folders quickly. Like the easy resizable thumbnail grid layout with info details in the sidebar. App lets you browse by folder organization, which is important as I have years of photos in month by month organized folders. Was primarily just looking for a simple gallery viewer that shows the basic file data of each photo and video within a comfortable dark skinned app with decent design layout and functionality. ![]() Decent photo and video gallery browser, similar to Adobe Bridge.
